ABandOfBrothers exists to help young men (18-24) who are in crisis and who are either already involved, or at risk of becoming involved, in the criminal justice system. The national statistics on police cautions, prison populations and homelessness speak from themselves, but the most tragic fact is that we lose 13 men to suicide every day in our country!
ABandOfBrothers trains older men to become mentors to the younger men who approach us, supporting them to make a healthy transition to adulthood and then giving them a whole network of mentors that they can call upon in times of need. We harness the inherent goodwill and desire of local adult men to give back, by training them in mentoring, emotional intelligence, community leadership and more.
The result is growing communities that benefit everyone. The young men have support for as long as they need it, at zero cost to them. The older men get training, deep fulfilment, and support too since, when their own life challenges arise, they model to the young men that asking for help is a sign of strength. And our wider communities benefit through reduced crime and the positive contributions of men who are increasingly finding their purpose.
